As planning continues for the June 2017 AUSCP Assembly in Atlanta, Father Bryan Massingale has confirmed the title of his keynote address, in communication with Father Bernard “Bob” Bonnot, chair of the AUSCP Leadership Team.
Massingale will address the assembly on the topic, "To Redeem the Soul of America:" Martin Luther King's Vision and Its Challenge to American Catholics.
Massingale describes his topic as follows: The Southern Christian Leadership Conference's mission during the Civil Rights Movement was not just to achieve racial integration. Its deepest goal was to "redeem the soul of America." This keynote address revisits King's vision and explores its challenges for the U.S. Catholic Church.
